If she became president, Lopez says he would leave the country and go to Canada.

GEORGE LOPEZ: I agree. If Sarah Palin becomes president at any point, I will say allegedly, I will move to Canada.

LOPEZ: I will go further north. I've been south. I'll go further north.

MORGAN: Why would you be so drastic?

Morgan is a terrible interviewer.

Sarah Palin does have a political background.

Lopez is clueless.

When Lopez refers to a "culture of personality" and electing "somebody by their smile instead of by their content," it sounds like he's referring to Obama and his election.

David Wu: 'Consensual' Sex with Teenager

DEMOCRAT David Wu says he won't run for reelection but he also won't resign in the wake of the sex scandal.

DEMOCRAT Wu claims that his sexual encounter with a teenager was consensual and he did nothing illegal.

From Politico:

Democratic Rep. David Wu admitted to a senior Democrat that he “did not use good judgment” during a sexual encounter with the teenage daughter of a family friend last Thanksgiving, although he claimed to have “done nothing illegal.”

Wu made the comment to Rep. John Larson (Conn.), chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, during a 40-minute meeting the two men had Monday afternoon.

...Sources close to Wu told POLITICO late Sunday night that he will not resign, although the veteran lawmaker has already decided not to seek reelection in 2012. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) have asked the Ethics Committee to investigate the incident, first reported by The Oregonian.

...Wu spent most of Monday huddled in the Democratic Cloakroom located off the House floor. Wu could be seen speaking to Honda and several other colleagues when he went on the floor to vote, but he quickly darted back into the cloakroom, which is off-limits to anyone but members and approved staffers.

Honda told Fox News that Wu shared “very personal things” during their conversation.

In an interview, Larson said he told Wu “to take care of your family, then yourself, then the institution, in that order.” While other top Democrats have privately urged Wu to resign, Larson said he had not done so. He called resignation “an option” for Wu.

Wu, though, admitted that an encounter with the girl occurred, potentially making it more difficult for his defenders to stand by him as the scandal unfolds. Wu reportedly told some of his staffers that the sex was “consensual,” The Oregonian reported.

The longer the scandal drags on the worse it is for Democrats.

It would be best for all involved if Wu would just step aside now.

By hanging on, Wu is giving Republicans a gift, just like Anthony Weiner did.

Presidential candidate Thaddeus McCotter was tweeting his reaction to Obama's address to the nation last night.

President glosses over his historic spending binge; plugs phony cuts; pushes more taxes & spending; & plays class warfare card.

President invokes Ronald Reagan 2 prop up straw man argument; & ignores Chief Executive's role in signing Congressional spending into law.

Waiting 4 President 2 refuse contributions from wealthy, corporations, hedge fund managers & others not "paying their fair share."

President has a posture not a plan. Refuses to accept that in 2010 the electorate voted for LESS & LIMITED government.

Let us also remember those rigid ideologues who jammed Obamacare on the American public without its consent.

Cut, cap and balance, like everyone else has to do who can only spend what they make - unlike govt. that can spend what it takes and prints.

Every dollar in higher taxes is another step further from limited government & economic recovery.

Obama's speech wasn't presidential. It was political. When is Obama going to assume the role of the president and lead?

I would love to see a debate between McCotter and Obama.

He supports the "cut, cap and balance" approach.

That approach entails "not [voting] to raise the debt ceiling unless Congress votes to drastically cut spending, [imposing] a cap on future spending, and [approving] a balanced budget amendment."

He completely dismissed all the talk about last summer being the "summer of recovery." Now, there's no recovery in sight.

The fact is this is Obama's economy. Period.

Here are five ways that President Obama’s actions have directly contributed to Friday’s dismal jobs report, which included a rise in unemployment to 9.2%, the news that only 18,000 jobs had been created in June in a country of 300 million people, that wages have declined and that 250,000 people left the job market entirely.

• Stimulus package— The nearly $1 trillion boondoggle failed to stimulate, as we all now know, but made government grow beyond its means. Most of the stimulus bill was filled with the usual government pork or repeating failed policies of the past such as “shovel-ready” projects. Very few provisions were pro-growth and worked to encourage companies to create new, permanent jobs. Some provisions, such as increased unemployment benefits, unfortunately increase the duration of unemployment. The bottom line is that the stimulus bill was based on the flawed economic assumption that governments can spend their way back to prosperity and growth. The government stimulus bill did not create jobs; instead it filled job creators with fears of future tax hikes or more borrowing, and thus future artificially high interest rates.

• Obamacare— It took the Administration and the Democratic-held Congress a year and half to ram this piece of legislation down the throat of the American people, time that could have been spent fixing the employment picture. Worse yet, Obamacare imposes vast and expansive new regulations and made labor costs uncertain. Many businesses have said that they are not going to hire permanent workers until they understand exactly how much Obamacare is going to cost their business and raise employment expenses. Other businesses are not sure how the new Obamacare regulations impacts their bottom line, which means they are going to sit tight instead of expanding.

• Frank-Dodd Financial Bill— The heavy-handed Dodd-Frank financial regulation bill not only placed needless burdens on small as well as large financial institutions, but has deterred investment by imposing ill-defined restrictions on those who want to invest in the economy. And it did so without addressing the real causes of the financial crisis.

• Environmental Protection Agency regulation— Unable to get Congress to pass Cap and Trade, with its skyrocketing electric rates, the Obama EPA is skinning the cat another way—mandating costly regulation. The EPA is implementing a lineup of electric-industry regulations, including the already in-force, but-as-yet-unspecified new CO2 rules, that promise higher rates, less reliability, and a sketchy future business environment. It’s no great surprise that firms haven’t turned up the throttle on hiring and expansion.

• Regulatory Assault on Employers— The Administration’s enforcement agencies view employers as lawbreakers who need to be brought in line. Within the Department of Labor the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Wage and Hour Division (WHD) have ramped up enforcement spending while cutting back programs that help employers understand and comply with the law. Obama’s Solicitor of Labor emphasizes the Labor Department’s focus on litigation against employers. The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is twisting the law into pretzels to facilitate union organizing, going so far as to file charges against Boeing for creating jobs in a non-union state. Obama’s message to employers has been clear: “We suspect you are breaking the law and we will get you.” Small wonder they are not hiring.

Bottom line: Obama has to be defeated in 2012, before his brand of hope and change does anymore damage.

Thaddeus McCotter 2012

Over the weekend, Thaddeus McCotter announced his run for the presidency.

If the election were held today, and the race was between McCotter and Obama, I would vote for McCotter in less than a heartbeat.

I would like to see him win the nomination. He certainly would make a terrific vice presidential nominee.

In any event, I think McCotter will play a significant role in shaping the Republican candidates' dialogue. That's a good thing.

Moreover, the Leftist media will have to contend with McCotter's discussion of substantive issues rather than dwelling on their unfair characterizations of Mitt Romney the Ken doll or Michele Bachmann the flake or Newt Gingrich the serial groom.

The Republicans' chances in 2012 took a giant leap forward with McCotter's decision to run.

Tammy Baldwin thinks that she's "likely" to run for the U.S. Senate seat open in the wake of Herb Kohl's departure.

U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) tells the Capital Times that, "I think I am likely to run" for the U.S. Senate seat held by U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), who is retiring next year.

I can say with absolute certitude that in the event Baldwin does run, I am 100 percent unlikely to vote for her.

She's an extremist, certainly more radical than Herb Kohl.

Tom Petty, Michele Bachmann, 'American Girl'

Tom Petty doesn't want Michele Bachmann's campaign using his song, "American Girl."

On Monday, Bachmann officially announced her candidacy for U.S. president. She left the stage as Petty's "American Girl" blared over the loudspeaker. Uh-oh.

Petty's camp is unhappy with Bachmann's choice of exit music and will ask the campaign not to use the song, according to an NBC News report. (Petty's manager was not immediately available for comment, an employee said.)

Petty previously sent George W. Bush a cease-and-desist letter over his presidential campaign's use of the song, "I Won't Back Down." Bush backed down, of course. But the former president is not alone.

In the past couple of years, musicians have enjoyed great success in getting politicians to see the error of their ways.

After the 2008 campaign, John McCain was forced to make an apology to Jackson Browne to settle a lawsuit over the use of his song, "Running on Empty." A few months after that, California senatorial candidate Chuck DeVore went on bended knee to settle claims made by Don Henley over use of the songs "Boys of Summer" and "All She Wants to Do is Dance."

...A dispute over music played at a campaign event, like the developing Petty vs. Bachmann sued, is an entirely new legal debate. Arguably, so long as a campaign purchases a license from the performance rights organization ASCAP, it should stand on solid ground. On the other hand, Petty could still claim that such music constituted an implied endorsement of the Republican candidate.

The Traveling Wilbury and Grammy winner isn't 100% stingy with permission. Petty gave Hillary Rodham Clinton the thumbs up to use "American Girl" throughout her campaign in 2008.

Petty doesn't want Bachmann using his song, cease and desist.

It's his song. That's his right.

However, assuming Bachmann's campaign purchased a license for performance rights from ASCAP, Bachmann didn't do anything wrong.

It's easier for Bachmann to drop the song than to fight it.

Another performer is complaining about a Republican using his or her music. So what else is new?

What I find really out of line in all of this is the response by the Washington Post on Facebook:

The Associated Press is citing that goofy PolitiFact operation in its report on Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, "FACT CHECK: Bachmann bomblets raising eyebrows."

Who's eyebrows are raised about Michele Bachmann?

Bill Maher's eyebrows? Maybe Rachel Maddow? I suppose Chris "Are you a flake?" Wallace is in a state of raised eyebrows.

Michele Bachmann's claim that she has "never gotten a penny" from a family farm that's been subsidized by the government is at odds with her financial disclosure statements. They show tens of thousands in personal income from the operation.

And, on a less substantive note, she flubbed her hometown history when declaring "John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa," and "that's the kind of spirit that I have, too," in running for president.

The actor was born nearly 150 miles away. It was the serial killer John Wayne Gacy Jr. who lived, for a time, in Waterloo.

Those were among the latest examples of how the Minnesota congresswoman has become one to watch — for inaccuracies as well as rising support — in the Republican presidential race.

Did the Associated Press rip Joe Biden or Obama apart like this when they were presidential candidates?

Did PolitiFact highlight the litany of Obama gaffes? Did the Associated Press report on all the raised eyebrows Obama's idiotic comments have caused?

Obama: Afghanistan and Election 2012

Why did Obama choose to ignore his military commanders regarding Afghanistan?

It's Election 2012, stupid.

Don't kid yourself. President Obama's decision to withdraw 33,000 troops from Afghanistan before he stands for re-election is not driven by the United States' "position of strength" in the war zone as much as it is by grim economic and political realities at home.

A sagging economy, a soaring national debt and an increasingly restive Congress pushed Obama to order troop reductions that are both deeper and faster than recommended by his military commanders.

"America," the president said in a prime-time address from the East Room, "it is time to focus on nation building here at home."

In announcing his decision, which still leaves 68,000 troops in the country after the 2012 election, Obama focused on a set of numbers that pander to a war-weary nation -- 10,000 troops out this year and another 23,000 in 2012, keeping a promise he made in 2009 to begin winding down the "surge" by the middle of this year.

By 2014, Obama said, "this process of transition will be complete, and the Afghan people will be responsible for their own security."

But the president's eye is set on numbers that have little to do with battlefield strategy and everything to do with his re-election hopes. They include:

Fifty-six percent of Americans say U.S. troops should be brought home as soon as possible, up from 40 percent a year ago (Pew Research Center).

Fewer than a quarter of people see signs of improvement in the economy and two-thirds say the country is on the wrong track. A clear majority of Americans say their children are destined to a lower standard of living (Bloomberg News National Poll).

The United States has spent $1.3 trillion in Iraq and Afghanistan in the past decade. Afghanistan alone is costing about $120 billion this year.

...The message as framed by the Obama political team: He knows it's the economy, stupid; he'll focus on it like a laser beam, even if it means "defying" his commanders and Cabinet.

...Obama does not to need to worry as much as past Democratic presidents about being labeled soft on national security -- not after giving the order that led to the assassination of Osama bin Laden. No, his biggest concern is being labeled tone deaf on joblessness and debt.

...In the end, Obama chose the clearest course to re-election.

In other words, Obama chose the course he believes suits his ends.

The Bottom Line

The president’s speech had a ring of “mission accomplished” to it. The real test will come when Afghan forces begin to fully replace the U.S. troops who are leaving. That test will come soon enough, though given the timing of the troop withdrawals, the full impact of this announcement may not be apparent until after the 2012 elections.
